Will Apologise Publicly if Proven Wrong, Says Vishwas Patil on Panipat

Panipat film is released today with a rating of 3.5/5 by Times of India. Bestselling Marathi novelist Vishwas Patil said he will “publicly apologise” to the makers of Panipat film, if they prove that the film is not inspired by his 1988 novel.

Panipat is Ashutosh Gowariker-directorial film starring Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt. It is set to be released today on December 6. Film recently found itself in a controversy after Vishwas Patil filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court accusing the makers of “stealing” the plot from his book. Vishwas Patil told PTI, “The moment I watched the trailer, I was very sure they (film maker) had stolen the soul of my book, and then there was no other alternative left but to go to the court. I have asked them to show me both the script and the movie. If I am wrong and they have not lifted from my plot, then I’ll publicly apologise, else they have to compensate,”.

Vishwas Patil’s book is now in its 43rd edition. And it has sold more than 2 Lakh copies in Marathi worldwide. It is recently being translated to English edition by Westland. Vishwas Patil’s book as well as the film ‘Panipat’ is based on the third battle of Panipat which was fought between the Maratha empire and the Afghan army on January 14, 1761.
